Riva's Style Through Pregnancy
The journey to motherhood is a special and exciting time for expecting mothers. From the time we find out about the little one who is about to become our entire world to watching our bodies change in front of our very eyes, we are taken for quite the ride. Every stage of pregnancy teaches us something new about our capabilities as women. We learn what it means to be truly patient. What it means to make sacrifices. What it means to accept the things that we have no control over. And we learn to love hard - in a way we never have before. For this mother's day, we caught up with Riva Nyri, one of our favorite badass boss babes to discuss style, motherhood and creativity.
Riva is a Haitian songstress, dancer, painter, entrepreneur based in Brooklyn, New York.
Describe your style.
My style varies dependent upon my mood and the occasion of course. But for the most part, it’s very much influenced by Haitian culture with some bohemian notes and hints of mama earth vibes.
How has pregnancy changed your style?
I’ve always preferred flowy clothes over form fitting but I’ve been especially leaning towards this since my pregnancy particularly for comfort’s sake. I love to wear long breathable dresses that allow for effortless movement. This also means I can wear flat sandals as opposed to heels, which is another plus.
Describe your pregnancy journey in 5 words or less.
Growth. Connection. Admiration. Love
Has pregnancy influenced your creativity and if so how?
Yes it has actually. I’ve been more inspired to create content pertaining to children. I am working on a Creole lullaby project, a sequel to my creole children’s book and wanting to teach dance class to younger children now.
What does motherhood mean to you?
It’s the greatest honor there is. It means being someone else’s immediate role model, caring for, teaching, protecting, and supporting another all while loving them selflessly. It’s a whole new world that I’m very much looking forward to.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I’m in complete awe of this entire process and simply cannot wait to hold her in my arms.
